Faith Lutherans Cross

Faith Lutheran's Cross

The Cross....to us who are being saved it is the power of God."  1 Corinthians 1:18b.

The cross is the Christian symbol of Christ's death and resurrection.

This particular cross is a Faith Lutheran creation.  When the new church building was built in 1989, a new large cross was created to hang above the organ in the sanctuary.  In the old church building hung a large crown of thorns, a symbol of Christ's suffering.  It was decided to combine the crown of thorns and the cross into the symbol you see.

Church Year

Time is a gift of God's creation. People order time in various ways, often based on the rhythms of nature. The church organizes time by the curch year. It tells the story of God, who is beyond time, acting in history-above all through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

All Sundays of the year are festivals of our Lord Jesus Christ. In a profound sense, Sunday-the first day of the week, the weekly celebration of the day of resuurection-is the primary Christian festival. Other principal festivals and observaces are the Nativity of Our Lord and the
Epiphany of Our Lord, Ash Wednesday and the days of Holy week, the Three Days of Maunday Thursday, Good Firday, an the Resurrection of Our Lord; the Sundays of Easter, the Ascension of Our Lord, and the Day of Pentecost; and the Holy Trinity.

The curch year includes the Christmas and Easter cycles of seasons and a period of time after Epiphany and after Pentecost. The Christmas cycle begins with the first Sunday of Advent, four Sundays before December 25, and concludes with the Epiphany of oOur Lord on January 6,. The Easter cycle begins with Ash Wednesday forty says before Easter and concludes with the Say of Pentrecosst on the fiftieth day of Easter. The weekly progression of Sundays charaxcterizes the Time after Epiphany ans the Time after Penecost.

Lesser festivals are additional days when we celebrate the life of Christ, the witness of those who accomplanied and testified to him, and the gifts of God in the church. Commemoations illuminate various aspects of the chruich's life and mission throughthe lives of women and men who havw followed Christ in succeeding generations.

The propers include scripture readings and other text that are chosen to suport the church year. Many Christian churches unite around a three-year set of Bible readings, the Revised Common Lectionary. Other propers include the prayer of the day. Additional prayers for assemby whorship and devotional use are also located in this section.
